Environmental Health Practicum Student – Sault Ste. Marie News

Vacancy Status: A temporary full-time vacancy, expected to last up to 14 weeks
Algoma Public Health (APH) is seeking enthusiastic students to fulfil Public Health Inspection practicum positions. Practicum students will use practical application of public health knowledge, skills and techniques throughout this position to reduce the incidence of illness in our communities. The practicum student under the supervision of Certified Public Health Inspectors will carry out work in accordance with The Ministry of Health Ontario Public Health Standards, the Health Protection and Promotion act and other applicable legislation. Upon the successful completion of your practicum, you will be eligible to sit for the Board of Certification Exam under the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors (CIPHI).
Qualifications, Experience and Skills for this position include but not limited to:
• 3rd year or 4th year student or recent graduate in/from a degree program approved by Board of Certification of the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors.
• Working knowledge of the Health Protection and Promotion Act and relevant Ontario Regulations is considered an asset.
• Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft office programs including Word, Excel and Outlook.
• Strong time management and project management skills.
• Ability to work effectively independently or as part of a team.
• Strong interpersonal, organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work outside regular business hours, including weekends and evenings, as required.
• Advanced oral and written proficiency in English is essential. Proficiency in both official languages, as well as knowledge of additional languages relevant to our diverse communities, will be considered an asset.
• Requires a valid “G” Ontario Driver’s Licence and use of a reliable vehicle.
• Ability to travel to various locations throughout Algoma to deliver services is a requirement.
• As a condition of employment, employees must meet immunization requirements in accordance with the APH Immunization policy.
• A current Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) with satisfactory clearance is a condition of employment, at own expense.
