Bradford library marking Mental Health Awareness Month with variety of events

In recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, the BWG Library will offer a range of free programs, events, and resources throughout May aimed at promoting mental wellness for all ages.

From workshops and support groups to panel discussions and wellness displays, the library is committed to supporting the emotional and mental well-being of its community.

The library, in collaboration with its partners, has planned an array of drop-in activities and learning opportunities designed to encourage connection, self-care, and support. Visitors can also browse curated book displays featuring titles focused on mental health, along with helpful information in the library’s display case. Patrons are invited to attend these programs on a drop-in basis.

Program schedule

Breastfeeding support

Thursdays, May 8, 15, 22, 29 — 10 to 11:30 a.m.

Professional support for new mothers.

Tai Chi Club

Wednesdays, May 7 and 21 — 1 to 2 p.m.

Low-impact exercise for everyone.

English Conversation Corner

Thursday, May 8 and 22 — 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Supportive social group to practice English.

Seniors Art Fun

Monday, May 12 — 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.

Creative expression to boost mental wellness.

Perimenopause: What you need to know

Monday, May 12 — 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Panel discussion about the mental health aspects of perimenopause.

My Sister’s Place

Wednesday, May 14 — 1 to 4 p.m.

One-on-one social support, advocacy, and resources.

Children’s mental health information session

Thursday, May 15 — 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.

Help for parenting children with big emotions.

Bradford Women’s+ Group

Thursday, May 15 — 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Supportive social group to empower women+.

Self-care toolkit

Monday, May 26 — 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Supportive group encouraging self-love and personal journeys.

Next Chapter Café

Wednesday, May 28 — 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Supportive group encouraging mental stimulation through games, activities, and social interaction.

“Community is such an integral part of mental health. In our modern world, where isolation is common, attending library programs and meeting people regularly helps build a sense of connectedness that is vital to well-being,” she says. “I’ve seen so many people form genuine friendships through these programs. They look forward to coming together to talk, vent, joke, commiserate, and share life experiences with others who truly understand.”

The BWG Library strives to provide a safe and inclusive space for everyone. The programs offered are designed to encourage community and give participants a place to feel that they are not alone.

Elizabeth Campbell, manager of community engagement, says, “The library is a great place to learn about yourself, from your likes and interests to your mental and emotional needs. We have a tremendous group of staff and partners who care deeply for their participants and a vast collection of resources to help them thrive.”
