Living a long and healthy life is ideal for many people, but how can it be accomplished?Many questions can be raised in regards to the process of living a healthy lifestyle. KOAT health expert Dr. Barry Ramo learned there are two men on a mission to find the true answer this problem.The latest health news: Health Beat on Action 7 NewsThose two men, Hector Garcia and Francesc Miralles, co-authored the book “Ikigai: The Japanese Secret to a Long and Happy Life.” Garcia and Miralles traveled to Japan to study how people there live to some of the oldest ages recorded.”This book ‘Ikigai’ explains the results of a study done by two men who went into the area of the world where people live the longest. As long as 112 years,” Ramo said. “What they did is they made observations about what these people did with their life that we might be able to translate to ours.”The book title, “Ikigai,” is a Japanese term which translates to a reason to live. Ramo said the two men observed and found some ways people lived in Japan that can be translated into other people’s lives.”Number one is that they had passion for their lives. They actually use the term Ikigai, which is never retire, and they never did retire,” Ramo said. “They got up every day, and they were active.”Other common characteristics found in the study were people continuing to be curious and having an unselfish mindset. “Secondly, they did things for other people, not just for themselves. They had a purpose in their life,” Ramo said. “Thirdly, they were excited about learning, they were still curious, they were asking questions.”A fourth observation that was made is people they studied stayed connected.
